Campaign

The goal of our campaign, the Shutting Off the Lights Campaign, is to help homeowners realize how important shutting off the lights is, especially if they do not have LED lighting in their home. For our campaign, we want to remind homeowners to shut off their lights when they leave a room or their house in general. Afterall, according to Energy Saver from Energy.Gov, 15% of a home's electricity usage is lights!

Our campaign reminds homeowners to shut off their lights through our mascot, Eddison, the Electricity Expert Elephant. He is featured in video ads, audio ads, and our blog.

Elephants have a good memory, and are a difficult animal to ignore, so that makes Eddison the perfect reminder to shut off your lights!

On a more serious note, however, if homeowners still have incandescent lightbulbs lighting their homes, that makes this campaign message even more important. According to Energy Saver from Energy.Gov, a good amount of energy from these bulbs goes towards/gives off heat instead of light. 90% percent of energy to be precise! Meanwhile, as Energy Saver from Energy.Gov presents, 90% less energy is used by LED light bulbs.

Shutting off lights can help homeowners through a financial side as well. When you have less efficient lighting, it can cost a homeowner more. Additionally, shutting off lights can help homeowners financially. As we know, electricity may not be produced in the most eco-friendly ways. When you shut off the lights, you are essentially helping the Earth. As Eddison says, “Earth is your home to!” Of course, as Energy Saver from Energy.Gov points out, the benefits of shutting off lights also depends on how much electricity costs in your area. Another factor is, as we have touched upon, what kind of bulbs you are using.

Overall, our campaign is to reach out to homeowners to encourage a simple behavior, that helps them and their environment, with a creative way of remembering to do so.
